BASE Facility is a University of Queensland–linked biotechnology facility based in Brisbane and a global leader in mRNA research and manufacture, specialising in the design, manufacture, and research of mRNA medicines and technologies, spanning early research through pre-clinical and early clinical stages, including advanced delivery systems.
I led the redesign of the BASE Facility website to better reflect this leadership and support a growing international audience. The project focused on improving clarity, usability, and visual credibility, while strengthening pathways that support awareness and uptake of BASE’s mRNA products and services.

User Research
As BASE Facility’s research and manufacturing capabilities continued to grow, their website needed to evolve to better represent the calibre of their work. The redesign focused on delivering a more refined, design-led experience that builds trust, strengthens credibility, and reflects BASE’s position as a global leader in mRNA research and manufacture.
The redesigned sitemap organises content around three clear user needs: understanding BASE Facility, exploring their mRNA platform and scientific expertise, and engaging with their products and services. Dedicated sections for Platform, Our Science, and Resources make complex information easier to navigate. A dedicated user area supports BASE Facility’s commercial goals by enabling more structured engagement with mRNA products through logged-in access to tools, resources, and enquiries.
The redesign focused on simplifying structure and strengthening hierarchy to make complex scientific content easier to scan, understand, and navigate. The previous site relied on dense sections and repeating layouts, which made it difficult for users to quickly distinguish between research, platform capabilities, and products. Through clearer page frameworks, consistent content patterns, and more deliberate use of space, the new design improves clarity, flow, and wayfinding across the site.
With an established logo already in place, the identity work focused on refinement rather than reinvention. I selected a complementary typeface and secondary colour palette to extend the existing brand system. I created an animated RNA strand motion graphic to support micro-interactions and produced the video banners used throughout the site.
The final outcome brings together strategic restructuring and visual refinement into a cohesive digital experience that focuses on clarity and ease of navigation. By balancing scientific precision with a modern aesthetic, the new interface elevates BASE Facility’s online presence to match their physical capabilities. The outcome is a polished, high-fidelity platform that builds authority and trust, ensuring every interaction reinforces BASE’s expertise while effectively serving both the research community and commercial partners.
