Industry Legal

Website Design

Project Overview

Industry Legal Group is a national law firm based in South Brisbane, specialising in providing tailored legal solutions for industry groups, trade associations and private businesses across Australia.

I led the redesign of the ILG website to modernise its digital presence and improve the accessibility of its specialised services. The project involved a complete overhaul of the site’s structure and visual identity, focusing on creating a professional, trustworthy environment that streamlines how clients and association members interact with the firm’s legal resources. Beyond improving the experience for existing members, the redesign strategically elevates the firm’s market positioning to help attract new clients.

Digital Design

Why was a redesign needed?

The primary driver for the redesign was that the existing website functioned as little more than a glorified digital brochure. The site was essentially a single page that lacked visual character, meaningful imagery, and the depth required to reflect a modern law firm. This static approach failed to showcase ILG’s specialised expertise or the breadth of their national services. To better support their growth and professional standing, the firm required a more dynamic digital presence that moved away from this limited, one-dimensional structure toward a comprehensive platform that actively engages both current members and prospective clients.

The original Industry Legal Group website was a single-page site with no structural depth, which limited how much information could be presented. A key part of the redesign was transitioning from this “flat” model to a multi-tiered structure that better reflects the firm’s national scale.

I developed a new framework that organises the firm’s services into logical categories, including dedicated sections for practice areas, industry specialisations, and member resources. By moving away from a single-page layout, I created a more functional hierarchy that makes it easier for both existing members and new clients to find the specific legal information they need.

The Redesign

The new layout represents a shift from a static brochure-style site to a functional legal platform. I replaced the original “flat” design with a modular system that prioritises accessibility and user flow. By mapping out a multi-page journey, I created clear entry points for different user types, whether they are existing association members looking for support or new businesses seeking legal representation.

From a design perspective, the new layouts move away from the dense text of the past in favour of a clean, structured aesthetic. I used generous white space and a clear visual hierarchy to ensure complex legal information is digestible and easy to navigate. This new structure provides the necessary real estate to showcase the firm’s diverse expertise while maintaining a professional, modern look that is built to scale.

Identity

Industry Legal Group had a well-established logo and a strong association with the colour green, but the client had grown tired of the original shade of green and thought a deeper, more sophisticated shade of green would better reflect the firm’s professional standing.

To support this updated palette, I adjusted the secondary colours to ensure high contrast and accessibility across the new site structure. I also introduced a new typographic pairing: Gabarito for bold headings and Open Sans for clean, legible body text. These modern sans-serifs were selected to complement the traditional serif of the ILG logo, creating a balanced aesthetic that feels both established and contemporary. Together, these changes maintain existing brand recognition while elevating the overall design to a modern digital standard.

The Finished Design

The finished design for Industry Legal Group utilises a modular framework of reusable blocks to create a versatile and consistent user experience. This modern aesthetic moves away from the previous text-heavy approach, instead using ample imagery and a clean layout to humanise the firm’s digital presence. To improve navigation across the firm’s national service offerings, I implemented a megamenu that provides an overview of all practice areas at a glance. Throughout the site, strategically placed call-to-action banners serve as intuitive touchpoints, transforming the platform into an active tool for client engagement and potential leads.
